Lyon Village, VA

Lyon Village - not to be confused with Lyon Park, it's southern neighbor - is located in Arlington, VA just north of Clarendon. It has attractive single-family homes and borders Clarendon's retail/restaurant/entertainment amenities, resulting in sought-after real estate with corresponding prices. Homes west of North Highland Street are typically larger with generous yards, and Lyon Village's eastern side has more modest (but cute!) bungalows and Cape Cod-style homes, which sit on tighter lots and have smaller yards. It's not uncommon for homes to be purchased and razed, making way for new construction home. Most of these properties are tasteful, well-built, and blend into the existing aesthetics of the community. They're typically large, but because most of the lots have long narrow lots, you don't notice how large the homes are from the street and they don't stand out. Lyon Village has few multi-unit offerings, namely The Residences at Lyon Hill and Lyon Pointe, both condo communities with luxury finishes. The Lyon Village community also offers the Lyon Village Community House, owned by the community, that hosts classes and events and helps create a sense of community.

Restaurants, Retail, and Entertainment

Although Lyon Village is entirely residential (when looking strictly within its borders), it benefits from Clarendon's restaurant/retail/entertainment scene along Lyon Village's southern border and just south of the border. Clarendon has over 40 sit-down restaurant options, including local favorites and familiar national chains. Whitlows on Wilson, a bar and restaurant, is a Clarendon landmark. Pamplona is an ornate bullfight-themed Spanish spot for creative tapas, paellas, sangria and other cocktails. O'Sullivan's Irish Pub is an authentic Irish restaurant and pub that offers live music in the evenings. Courthaus Social is a popular beerhaus and beer garden offering craft brews, German food, burgers & sports on TV. Enjoy chef Scot Harlan's nose-to-tail culinary ethos play out in his American-French cuisine at modern, kitschy Green Pig Bistro. Market Common has the highest concentration of retail. Clarendon offers popular national retail offerings like an Apple Store, Blue Mercury, and Whole Foods, along with a vast amount of other fun and useful retail options.  Also located in Clarendon are Crate & Barrel, Lilly Pulitzer, and Trader Joe’s, along with a collection of locally-owned shops like Bakeshop, Current Boutique, and Kinder Haus Toys. Don't overlook the Serbian speakeasy, fashion retailers, artisan ice cream, and microbrewery Boardroom Brewing.

Transportation

Lyon Village Clarendon Metro station (Orange/Silver) lines, just south of the Lyon VIllage neighborhood border. You can also access DC via MetroBus, and other parts of Arlington via Arlington Rapid Transit (ART) bus lines 41, 42, and 77. Wilson Blvd and Clarendon Blvd have. Also like much of the DC region's more dense areas, traffic can slow drivers down, but many side streets are closed to thru-traffic, mitigating the frustration for residents. The neighborhood is close to many of the area’s main roads, including VA Rte 50, I-66, and the George Washington (GW) Parkway. Parking in Lyon Village is a breeze, but Clarendon's commercial zone can pose parking challenges. Streets closer to Clarendon retail strips do experience illegal parking overflow from time to time, but parking enforcement is active and vigilant.
