The region of Columbia Pike, in Arlington, VA, is a collection of smaller neighborhoods, many with established leafy streets of single-family homes; new mixed-use developments with condos retail and amenities; and an older commercial sections with long-standing retail.  It is named after Columbia Pike, the long four-lane thoroughfare that extends southwest from the Pentagon and Army Navy Country Club in the east to Bailey’s Crossroads in Falls Church. Its housing stock includes garden apartments and condos, newer mid-rise brick apartments and condos, some detached single-family homes in neighborhoods like Alcova Heights and Columbia Forest. Architecturally diverse, Columbia Pike housing styles include bungalows, Cape Cod homes, brick ramblers, and colonials.  The intersection of Walter Reed Drive and Columbia Pike has been active with new construction, and now includes large r buildings like the Halstead, Siena Park, and Penrose Square. Arlington County passed a comprehensive revitalization plan in 2002 that promotes development of a walkable, mixed-use urban village along Columbia Pike.

Restaurants, Retail, and Entertainment

Columbia Pike offers a wide spectrum of cuisines and dining option, such as Bangkok 54, Boru Ramen, Celtic House Irish Pub & Restaurant, Chipotle, Elizabeth's Counter, Lost Dog Café, Rebellion, Taqueria el Poblano, and William Jeffrey's Tavern. The district offers convenient retail staples like Giant and Harris Teeter, and XSport Fitness and Evolve All Fitness, and bike stores Phoenix Bikes and Papillon Cycles. It also offers pie shop Acme Pie, picture frame shop Art & Framing Club, The Pilates Loft, and The Top Jewelers. For local entertainment, residents and visitors can enjoy Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse, Arlington Escape Room, and The Arlington Players - a theater company with productions ranging from Shakespearean classics to Rodgers & Hammerstein and Sondheim.

Transportation

The Columbia Pike region and its neighborhoods are served by buses, both from WMATA’s Metrobus service and Arlington Rapid Transit (ART) bus lines, which run to the Pentagon City Metro station (Blue /Orange lines), Ballston-MU (Orange line), and to the Pentagon, where riders can connect a hub of bus lines running through northern Virginia and into DC. Compared to nodes along the Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor, Columbia Pike might seem detached. Arlington County was exploring a streetcar line that would run from the Pentagon City Metro station to Bailey’s Crossroads, but it was shelved in 2014 because some residents protested. Columbia Pike is very convenient for drivers. Also close to VA Rte 50, Columbia Pike is equidistant to I-66 and I-395.
