Ballston, VA
Ballston, in Arlington, VA, is conveniently located among popular restaurants, retail, entertainment, and transportation options. Ballston serves as the western endcap for the dense mixed-use Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor (sometimes referred to as the "RB Corridor"). Ballston has high-rise condo buildings (Arlington doesn't have the height limits that keep building heights to 13 stories in DC), apartments, and office buildings immediately near the Metro station and then townhouses and then detached single-family homes become more common as you move farther out. Architecturally, Ballston features a spectrum of buildings, including townhouses built in the '60s and '70s, a few detached bungalows and Cap Cod houses, and new mixed-use luxury buildings that were built in the last decade. Historically, Ballston housing has been somewhat more affordable than its DC counterparts, and even neighborhoods to the east on the RB Corridor.
Restaurants, Retail, and Entertainment
Not too long ago, Ballston was non-descript, unexciting, and only featured chain restaurants. Those days are gone. Ballston business owners banded together to form a partnership that eventually became the Ballston Business Improvement District (BID), with dedicated funding to make Ballston walkable, attractive, friendly, and fun! It doesn't just ensure conveniently placed trash cans, flowers, and street lights; the BID organizes a wide spectrum of events to maintain a vibrant, dynamic scene. On a given month, they might hold a wine-tasting, restaurant crawls, live local artists, games and scavenger hunts.
